Strife on 09-24-2001 by propheci
If you don't know who they are, you're not hardcore. Anyway, I interviewed Chad Peterson, the bassist, about the new record and everything. During the phone call, I had noticed that his voice was really low, probably because he was on a cellphone or something. Anyway, I didn't think anything of it and just continued the interview. Afterwards, going through my tape, I could only hear my voice and background noise. Anyway, I have reconstructed the interview with the best of my memory paraphrasing Chad's answers. I feel extremely sorry and mad that I did not record the interview for his verbatim answers.
Can you comment on the breakup? How, why did it happen?
The band was over-worked. After doing so many shows and so many tours, they discovered that it stopped being what it was suppose to be.
Was the band in contact during the hiatus?
Yes. Chad lived with Sid and the other members were in contact also.
What did you do during the hiatus?
Chad was personally involved in the band that played Ozzfest. The name escapes me for now, but I'm sure many of you knew. He has also worked for the same bank for many years. All the members of the band had jobs. Doing a band alone doesn't pay the bills.
What about Angermeans? Is that a dead project?
Yes. Since Strife is band, Angermeans is no longer.
Whose idea was it to get back together?
Initially, the band had gotten back together to play a benefit show. After playing, the band felt it would be a waste to let everything go.
Who in the band is still sXe and who is not?
Officially, no one in the band is straight edge anymore.
Will the lyrics and theme of the band still be based on sXe?
The lyrics will not be about straight-edge anymore. It will take on a more worldly feel talking about politics, society, racism, etc.
Has the band's relationship with other sXe bands like Earth Crisis changed at all?
No, they are still very much friends. They had met members EC after the reunion was announced and they were very supportive.
What are some of your favorite bands right now?
Chad personally can't wait for the new Incubus album. He feels that they have very many talents. He also likes the new Tool. The rest of the band listens to a lot of metal.
How has the band's music style progressed or changed since the live album?
A lot heavier. More metal sounding.
When and where did you guys record the album?
The entire album was recorded in many many different studios.
Can you tell me what guests will be on the album?
Since it's touring season, the band has had trouble getting guests to appear. As of right now, only Cypress Hill's percussionist Bobo is on the album
Touring plans?
The band has been offered a slot in the upcoming Victory tour. No official announcements have been made yet.
At the shows, are you still going to play old songs?
Yes. They will play old songs.
Any eps, split, other recording plans?
Not yet.
