Spitfire on 03-2001 by Solar Fox
This was with Chris of Spitfire.
Could you describe Spitfire for somebody who hasn't heard the band before?
Well, that is pretty hard to do. I would say we are pretty much a metal with
many different influences. Although we play heavy stuff we definetly draw
influences from many different types of music.
What kinds of music do you guys like to listen to and who are your biggest influences?
We are into a lot of different stuff. I am a huge pearl jam and beatles fan, but I am all about tech metal like mesuggah and dillinger escape plan, Jon is really into kent and stuff like that, Jimmy is into more rock stuff like further seems forever and Weezer, and Matt is into stryper. Are influeces mostly come from what we are into at the time. On the heavy side, Dead Guy and Jesuit are big influences for us.
What do you guys do when you aren't playing in the band? (jobs etc)
Everyone but Matt is in school, he works at a hospital. I also work at a record store. Jon is in another band with our old guitar player Randy called User Friendly. And Jimmy keeps busy with his Art and school.
Do you guys have any strong opinions about Napster? Who do you think Napster has larger effect on (positive or negative), bands such as yours or big bands like Mettallica?
I think Lars is a moron. I think Napster is awesome, especially for bands like us. I think a lot of people check us out through napster that would have never heard us before. I think it sucks that coming from a band that started where we did like Mettalica would condem Napster. I understand that they think people should pay for the music and that it is a business, but I don't see it as being such a threat. I think its really crappy that Lars said people steal Mettalica's music. Thats just not what music is about.
I haven'tt heard much about Spitfire for a long time. What is going on with the band?
Well, we are playing full time again. We left solidstate records and our looking for a new label. Matt(the guitar player and singer on the dead next door) is back with us and we are playing a lot of shows and recording an ep for goodfellow records that will be out in late june.
The new stuff you guys played at Cornerstone last summer sounded really good. I read you guys had some member changes so will that material be put out on an album or anything?
We don't know, we might take one song from that show and record it, but we aren't sure, Are new stuff is much better than that so it will most likely just get thrown out.
With the new band members can we expect any change in musical direction or style?
It is definetly more complex and heavier, but for the most part the music is the same.
Are there any current plans for touring or recording?
We have a couple of shows coming up and are hopefully touring with our buddies eighteen visions soon. The only recording in the works is the ep.
If you do record do you know what label you will be on?
We don't know what label we will be on yet. We have talked with several, but nothing serious has happened yet.
I've read a lot of stuff like religion doesn't have any place in rock
music, or such and such band sucks because they are Christians or something like that. What would you say to somebody that has this kind of criticism
I think its pretty ridiculous. We arent a full on christian band, but just being on solidstate we always got weird vibes about it. I can't say it
really ever bothered us though.
