One Shining Moment on 08-28-2001 by Johanna Jeworski
1) Who is in the band and what do you play?
My name is Brent, I play guitar. I'm Ted, I play bass. Also, Mike
sings
and Diah plays drums.
2) What does the name "One Shining Moment" mean?
Brent-It's that moment right when you are about to.....uh..just
kidding.
It kind of just means that no matter how shitty things get or how f'd up
you think you're life is, there's always that one brief shining moment
when everything seems OK. We like to focus on weeding through the little
bullshit problems and focusing on positivity and taking that moment and
using that to realize that in the big picture of things stupid little
problems like school, work, relationships etc. really are insignificant or
can be used as a learning experience.
3) Where are you guys from?
Ted- We all live in Minneapolis, MN but Diah is from Iowa (he asked to
not
to mention that to anyone though) and Mike is from Aberdeen SD. We pretty
much represent the three dumbest states in the country.
4) Do you guys have any recordings out?
Brent- Our EP "Four Wall Funeral" will be out in early September. You
can
get it either off of our web page or at a show.
5) What are some of the bands influences?
Ted- We all have really different tastes in music. Mike is into a lot
of
more mellow stuff like Appleseed Cast, Mineral and American Football.
Diah likes more like punk kind of stuff like Grade, Jimmy Eat World and
Osker. Brent is more into older hardcore like Youth of Today, 108,
Shelter and Warzone. I actually don't listen much hardcore or punk or
anything. I'm kind of into more elctronic stuff like Delerium, Electronic
and like Suicidal and Type-O-Negative. Moody stuff.
6) What do you guys think of the whole punk/hardcore scene?
Brent- I really don't pay much attention to what goes in the "scene."
I
would personally like our music to be accessible to anyone and everyone
and sometimes if you engulf yourself in the scene you get pigeonholed or
"stuck" being a hardcore band and we all know what happens when a band
tries to change their sound or put some distance between themselves and
the scene. (ie. VOD or Earth Crisis) Lets just say that the hardcore
kids aren't too accepting of that. Otherwise I think the unity and
postivity aspect is cool as long as the focus always stays on the music.
7) What do you guys write about?
Brent- Sex, Beer and Football. No, actually we just write about the
day
to day problems that everyone goes through that not everyone chooses to
acknowledge. Our music may come off as somewhat "depressing" but we all
have this belief that the most postive or helpful songs are the ones that
you can relate to and help you sort out your shit that you're going
through.
8) Are you guys sXe? If not, what do you think of that belief?
Brent- No, none of us are straightedge. I think that the sXe belief
is
very cool but I also think that the choice to not indulge in drugs or
alcohol should be made on a personal level, not just to be able to draw an
X on your hand and get scene points.
9) Are you guys touring anytime soon?
Brent- Yes, we are actually heading out for three months starting on
Sep.
21st. We will touring with From Autumn to Ashes until Oct 22nd. They are
so damn awesome by the way. We will be hooking up with Nora here and
there and As I lay Dying on the west coast. We're not quite sure who we're
gonna be with for the second leg. Mike tells me Guns'n'Roses but I'm not
sure about that.
10) Just for the ladies who's the hottie of the band?
Brent- We're all equally ugly.
11) What bands have you guys been in before that people might have heard of?
Brent- Mike was in "26 days til Freedom" and then he was in "The
Omentide." Ted and I were in "Modern Dfect" and I'm not sure if they have
bands on the planet that Diah is from. By the way, Ted left a little bit
ago so I'm going solo on these. I think he heard his legos calling.
12) Lastly, Where and what do you guy hope to accomplish with this band?
Brent- It sounds really cheesy but I think we all have a desire to
affect
people's lives in a postive way. If not that, then to at least get people
to think and not be afraid to acknwoledge their problems and fears and if
we can help them to overcome some of that stuff then I feel we've
accomplished a lot. For me personally I think about the way I feel when i
listen to songs like YOT's "positive outlook" or 7 seconds' "Got my List"
and how those songs make me feel and if a song that we write can affect
someone like that I'll be totally happy. As for the band as a whole I
think, like everyone else, that we just want to be able to do this and not
have to work some lame-ass 9-5 job for the rest of our life.
