1) who are you and what do you do for the band?
my name is bruce and I sing and play guitar for Living Sacrifice
2) what instruments do you use?
I use an old charvel guitar that I bought about 10 years ago with EMG pickups
3) what are your influences? what bands have you been listening to lately?
bands like old Metallica, Slayer, all the way to Jawbox and Quicksand. Lately I have been listening to Refused 'shape of punk to come', and Jars of Clay and Stavesacre ' Speakeasy'.
4) how long ago did the band start planning for the new album?
we started working on the new record in 1998 but were waiting for the right recording situation with our label, Solidstate.
5) was there ever a decision made in the band to change the style of the band from death metal to the current style or did it just happen?
well, our first 3 records had our origional vocalist DJ who had a more death metal vocal approach. In 1996 DJ left the band and I started to sing. My approach was not death but more aggressive and volatile. the music evolved to compliment my vocal delivery. On the Hammering Process, I wanted to have melodic vocals to offset the aggressive vocal. I think it turned out great, without alienating fans of our previous record, 'Reborn', which I also sing on.
6) how would you rate the new album vs. the past ones?
I think The Hammering Process is the most dynamic, and diverse record we have ever done. And because of that I think it is the best by far. I don't like our first 3 records very much.
7) what is Matt's involvement with Eso-Charis? will the 2 bands tour together sometime?
Matthew is writing music with his brother Cory and it will probably be new Eso-Charis. Although they have lots of talent and creativity so I would not put it past them to do something completely different and amazing. experimental. But as far as an actual band I think Eso-Charis is broken up.
8) what's up with Rocky's band Soul Embraced?
Soul Embraced is Rocky, Lance and Rocky's brother in law Chad. They are writing for a record to be released by Solidstate next year.
9) other than the tours in Jan/Feb of 2001, are there any other tours planned?
no, not yet. but you can always get up to date info at www.livingsacrifice.com regarding tours and such.
10) how do you feel about SolidState. have they been supportive?
Solidstate is very cool to us. We are their favorite band ever. so that helps. they love us. haha.
seriously, they are extremely supportive of Living Sacrifice. So, we like them a lot.
