Boywunder on 01-29-2001 by propheci
1) Who are you and what do you do for Boywunder?
my name's eric. i'm the vocalist/screamer/singer. take your pick, whatever
you want to call it is fine.
2) How did the band come about?
well, i was not an original member (but not many hardcore bands have all
original members). last september ('99) 5 guys got together to cover some
deftones songs for this picnic thing at college. it turned out well so they
played together more and wrote a bunch of songs. then the old vocalist left
because he's an engineering major and had a pretty rough schedule to begin
with. dan, our bassist, was one of my roommates at the time and i went to a
practice and from then on i was in.
3) Where does the band name come from?
from batman. it was robin's nickname, but i think we changed it because
there was a band called Boywonder and apparently there's another Boywunder
out there, but we have yet to meet them.
4) What are your and the band's main influences?
it's funny because we all listen to many different types of music. as far as
heavy music we listen to: poison the well, zao, deftones, narcissus, shai
hulud, luti-kriss, boy sets fire, staind, the hope conspiracy, and 18
visions just to name a few. we all listen to tons of other music. i listen
to a lot of bands like, get up kids, dashboard confessional, nfg, weezer,
don caballero, etc. whereas dan listens to the regular hardcore music that
we all listen to plus some rap and r&b and alice in chains. dale and andy
are the metal guys of our band i guess. andy's a huge living sacrifice band
and dale is in love with shai hulud. matt pretty much listens to everything
except country. i guess you can say our musical influences are all over the
place.
5) List some recent albums you've bought and really liked.
personally, i've been listening to dashboard confessional. also don
caballero is amazing. the boy sets fire cd "after the eulogy" is one of my
favorites now. i'd have to say my favorite "hardcore" cd right now is either
poison the well or the hope conspiracy.
6) What has the band being doing recently? Any plans on new album or tours?
we've been writing new material like mad. we've got a solid set now and
we're ready to start playing out now. i know we're going out with zao and
not waving but drowning for a weekend (march 9-11) so that'll be rad. i'm
not sure about any other tours. as far as an album i don't think so. we're
just going to keep on making demos until we sign i suppose. we're going to
be on some comps soon (through these eyes and a kickstart audio comp) so
that's cool.
7) How did the band hookup with Zao on the shows?
we've been going to all the local zao shows for years now. i think just from
talking to jesse in the past year and a half since we've been a band, we've
befriended him and he's really treated us well and hooked us up.
8) If you weren't in the music business, what would you be doing?
well, i don't think i'm really in the music business. i mean, it's an
aspiration of mine, and it's what i'd really love to do with my life, but
who knows as of now. i'm a full-time student and i'm going to college to go
into youth ministries, but if God opens that door for us to make music as an
occupation, i'll take that as a sign and walk through it.
9) Any thoughts on the current hXc scene?
not really. i mean, i'm not really about any "scene" persay. if you want to
be in a scene or whatever that's cool. i just say be yourself and don't try
to form-fit yourself into any style.
10) What does the band do when they're not touring or recording?
all of us are taking classes somewhere, so that's a big part of our lives.
right now, andy's the only one with a girlfriend so the ladies don't consume
a lot of our time. actually we're kind of obnoxious. anyone who knows us
knows we're total goofballs. in the words of our famous friend and living
legend, "it's all good."
